Stanley Tools offers a broad range of carpentry hand tools, laser measuring tools, automotive tools, tool sets, and tool boxes for construction professionals, mechanics, and home improvement enthusiasts.... Hammer Safety Tips Strike squarely with the hammer striking face parallel with the surface being struck. Always avoid glancing blows and over and under strikes. When striking another tool (chisel, punch, wedge, etc.), the striking face of the proper hammer should have a diameter approximately 3/8" larger than the struck face of the tool. Always use a hammer of suitable size and weight for the job. Don't use a tack hammer to drive a spike, nor a sledge to drive a tack. Never use on hammer to strike another hammer or a hatchet. Never use a striking or struck tool with loose or damaged handle. Discard any striking or struck tool if tool shows dents, cracks, chips, mushrooming, or excessive wear. Never regrind, weld or reheat-treat a hammer.

Stanley 20 oz Hammer is the Job
The Stanley 20 oz Hammer is made from forged and heat treated steel. It should not rust under normal condition's and is a perfect weight to suit hand speed.

Though its perhaps always best to have a 16 oz and 20 oz in your toolkit, Stanley also do a 16 oz head as well so you can buy both together, or as you need them.

I usually find it more practical to have all my tools bought well in advance.

The Hammer is an excellent weighted hammer and fits very comfortable in the hand with the rubber hand grip. I would thoughtfully recommend this brand over any other Hammer.

I've been using this brand for nearly 25 years, and its the number one tool in any tradesman or DIY toolkit.

a big hitter
DIY is, for me, the only way I can make sense of the baffling jelly of the world. Nothing can compare to the satisfying feeling of a naughty shelf made right, nor the late-night shepherding of fleeing tacks spooked by the proximity of a rogue post-it note.

For many seasons I had relied on my forehead, and a sense of unfocussed righteous indignation, to pierce my boards with nails. I earned the admiration of my cousins, the northern wolves, but my day-to-day gleefulness was downgraded somewhat because of the blazing pain. Oh-no-Aloha.

One day, when I was temporarily Amish, we were raising a barn and, with the power of our minds, popping corn. I was, needless to say, hurting, although this was offset by the savoury, dangerous smell of the cinema. Caleb paused in his labours, and said, "Doctor M, have you no hammer?" I wiped the blood from my brow, and in a flash everything was clear.

I purchased this wee beastie, this prince Hammerlet, truly the master of carpentry ceremonies - the hammer m.c. Much recommended.

Solid, good weight
I pretty much agree with the other reviewer; it's a solid feeling hammer with a good weight. My previous hammer was lighter than this and made it a bit of a chore just banging in nails - the extra weight of this hammer makes life a lot easier.

As I am only using this occasionally for home DIY jobs (the last one was re-doing the roof of the shed) I can't really comment on its longevity, but for me and the rest of you DIYers out there this hammer will probably give you years of "trouble free motoring"!

All in all a great value branded hammer.

Smashing quality
Now, I will admit that I am no expert at DIY but I know a good hammer when I use one, because I have used so many bad ones and nearly been hit by flying heads. This is a really well made hammer and has a good weight to it. I am glad I chose to buy a known make this time instead of discount shop special. This is really good.
